How to Retain Ice in Your WILD Cooler

WILD Ice

Whether you're on a camping trip, hosting a beach day, or embarking on a long road trip, keeping your cooler's ice intact is essential for preserving your food and drinks. Here are some tips to ensure your WILD Cooler retains ice for as long as possible.

1. Pre-Chill Your Cooler

Before packing your cooler, pre-chill it by placing a bag of ice inside a few hours beforehand. This helps lower the cooler's internal temperature, so the ice you add later won’t start melting immediately.

2. Pack it Tight

The more ice you have in your cooler, the longer it will last. Fill any empty spaces with ice packs or additional ice to reduce the amount of air circulating inside, which can speed up melting.

3. Use Larger Ice Blocks

Larger blocks of ice take longer to melt than smaller cubes. Consider freezing water in large containers or purchasing block ice for longer-lasting cooling. You can also supplement with smaller ice cubes for more coverage.

4. Keep It Closed

Limit how often you open your cooler. Each time you do, warm air enters, speeding up the ice-melting process. Plan ahead so you don’t have to keep reaching into the cooler.

5. Don't Lose The Water

Don’t drain out water once the ice begins to melt – the ice water will be almost as cold as the remaining ice and will slow its melting. Do, however, make sure any food items in the box are sealed against water ingress.

6. Store Your Cooler in the Shade

Whenever possible, keep your cooler in the shade. Direct sunlight and high temperatures can cause the ice to melt faster. If you’re on the go, covering the cooler with a blanket or towel can also provide some insulation.

7. Use Dry Ice (With Caution)

If you need your cooler to stay cold for an extended period, consider using dry ice. It’s colder than regular ice and won’t leave any water behind as it sublimates. Just be sure to handle it carefully and follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for safe use in your WILD Cooler.

By following these tips, you can maximise the ice retention in your WILD Cooler and keep your perishables fresh and your drinks cold for longer. Enjoy your adventures without worrying about the state of your cooler!
